Description

HORNBY BLUNDELL KING TIMBER MERCHANTS, TYPE D, 0-4-0T, NO. 7 – ERA 3/4

Our Hornby RailRoad collection provides a perfect entry into the exciting world of 00 gauge railway modelling. Designed to be less easily damaged, yet maintaining attractive detailing and accurate liveries, the range is ideal for both the younger enthusiast and experienced modeller.

In 1907, the locomotive superintendent of Guest, Keen & Nettleford’s Dowlais Works, George Robson, built a small class of heavy 0-4-0T Type D locomotives for use at the iron and steel works there, two of which were named by King George V and Queen Mary in June 1912. Operating conditions for the locomotive crews at Dowlais was tough, extended shifts leaving them cold, tired and hungry, but these large 0-4-0 tank engines coped well enough to be sold into private industrial use.
